My favorite moment is when I see the crowd fully lock in—hands up, faces lit, everyone moving together—and I realize the music is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. That split second when a drop hits or a throwback comes on, and the whole room reacts at once… that’s the reminder. It’s pure connection, energy, and joy, and it never gets old.

When I’m opening up a dance floor, I naturally gravitate toward feel-good, familiar, and groove-driven music that eases people in before turning the energy up:

• Open-format & Top 40 – recognizable hits that make people comfortable jumping in
• Hip-hop & R&B – mid-tempo grooves that get heads nodding and bodies moving
• Throwbacks (90s–2010s) – songs people know every word to, which lowers the “first-dance” barrier
• Dance / Pop-EDM – light, upbeat tracks that build momentum without overwhelming the room
• I focus on creating a welcoming vibe first—once the floor feels safe and fun, that’s when I start pushing the energy higher.

Depending on the crowd, I adjust the hype mix to match what will hit them best:

• Hip-Hop / Party Crowd: Turn Down for What → Yeah! → Low
• Top 40 / Mixed Ages: Uptown Funk → Can’t Stop the Feeling!
• EDM / Younger Crowd: Lose Control → Where Are Ü Now
• Throwback / Sing-Along Crowd: Mr. Brightside or I Wanna Dance with Somebody

The key is reading the room and choosing the track that feels familiar, exciting, and unexpected—that’s what brings people rushing back to the dance floor.

One of my biggest secrets is giving the crowd a win—dropping a song they didn’t know they were waiting for. A well-timed throwback, a surprise remix, or a quick genre switch pulls people back because it feels personal and fun, not predictable.

Weddings – These are my favorite because they’re personal and meaningful. I love working closely with couples, learning their story, and helping plan a soundtrack that reflects who they are. There’s nothing better than seeing multiple generations on the dance floor together and knowing the music played a role in creating those once-in-a-lifetime memories.

One wedding that really stands out was a reception where every generation ended up on the dance floor—from grandparents to kids—at the same time. What made it unforgettable was seeing the couple look out at that moment and realize everyone they loved was celebrating together. The energy was genuine, nonstop, and joyful, and it reminded me why I love weddings: you’re not just playing music, you’re creating memories that people talk about for years.

I personalize every event by starting with the people, not the playlist. I take time to learn each client’s taste, must-play songs, do-not-play list, and the overall vibe they want. From there, I read the room in real time—watching energy levels, age mix, and reactions—to adjust the music so it feels natural and personal, not pre-programmed. I also coordinate closely with vendors and timelines so everything flows smoothly, allowing the client to relax and enjoy an experience that truly feels like their event.

Beyond the music, I love using subtle, well-timed effects that elevate the moment without overpowering it. I’ll use intelligent uplighting to shift colors with the energy of the room, clean microphone effects for key announcements so they cut through clearly, and lighting accents timed to big drops or special moments like grand entrances or last dances. When everything hits at once—music, lighting, and timing—it turns a great moment into an unforgettable one.

I take a team-first approach. I introduce myself early—usually by email before the event—and make sure everyone has the timeline and key moments in advance. On the day of, I check in with photographers, planners, and other vendors as soon as I arrive so we’re all aligned. During the event, I communicate before big moments (entrances, dances, speeches) to give them a heads-up. That collaboration keeps everything smooth, stress-free, and perfectly timed for the client.

People are often surprised to learn how detail-oriented and behind-the-scenes focused I am. While the DJ role looks all about high energy and the party, a lot of my passion comes from planning, timing, and making sure everything runs smoothly so the couple and guests never have to think about it—they just enjoy the moment.
